Samsung X360 Notebook
The market leader in consumer electronics and world leader in IT technology, Samsung Electronics has announced its new ultra-lightweight notebook – Samsung X360, which the company claims as the lightest notebook in its 13.3-inch class, weighing just 1.27kg (slightly lighter than Apple’s popular MacBook Air).

“The X360 pushes back the boundaries of form and function to deliver real style with substance,” said HS Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Computer Systems Division. “It offers a tremendous reduction in size and weight but without compromising on functionality, so users have everything they need for life on the move.”
Impressive Highlights Of Samsung X360:
45 nano-meter sized Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processor
13.3-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) SuperBright LED backlit
Built-in 7 in 1 memory card reader (MS, MS Pro, SD, SDHC, MMC, MMC plus, xD) and 3 x USB ports
Super fast 802.11a/b/g/n wireless and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) capabilities
Integrated HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection
Built-in 1.3-megapixel digital motion camera
New Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 graphics core
Option of a huge 128GB SSD (Solid State Drive)
Secure biometric fingerprint authentication system and trusted platform module
Silver Nano Technology – Sprinkling incredibly small, nano-sized silver ion powder on the keyboard your system will remain “bacteria free” for even longer
According to Samsung, “The X360 also features the option of an ultra-fast and reliable 128GB Solid State Drive (SSD), which significantly enhances performance compared to a typical hard disk drive (HDD), with a boot time that is 25-50 percent faster and data access times that are 300 percent faster (53 MB/s) for reading and 150 percent faster (28 MB/s) for writing. With no moving parts SSDs also weigh less, uses significantly less power and are less prone to errors and damage – in fact, the X360 is equipped to withstand twice the impact of the hard-drive-enabled model. So, the notebook will perform faster and last even longer.”
The new Samsung X360 notebook that incorporates removable 6 cell battery supporting up to 10 hours continuous use will be available starting September 2008.
Samsung NP-X60 Laptop

Samsung NP_X60 notebook computer has a 15.4″ widescreen LCD and weighs in at about 2.5kg (5.5lb) with a 6 cell battery installed. The NP-X60 also features Intel Dual Core CPU, Wireless, Bluetooth, PCI-Express, Gigabit Ethernet and Serial-ATA.
NotebookReview reviewed that “The X60 should be on the shortlist of anyone looking for a lightweight 15.4″ widescreen computer (subject to the regional availability constraints). Build quality does not appear to be compromised by the low weight. The model reviewed contains the slowest of the Core Duo CPUs and an intermediate level graphics processor. Overall performance is well ahead of the previous generation of notebooks. Although the supplied HDD is nominally 100GB, there was only 86GB remaining after formatting and installation of the AVStation Now software.
So far, I have no regrets about my purchase which seems to satisfy my original objectives. I would have liked a faster CPU, but it is evident that the slowest of the dual core CPUs provides a substantial performance improvement. I would have liked a slightly higher resolution display (1440 x 900). The greatest disappointment has been the unnecessarily heavy PSU.”
Pros
A lightweight (just over 2.5kg / 5.5lb) 15.4″ notebook
A fast machine (compared to the previous generation of notebooks)
Solid and rigid construction
Good audio volume and quality
A quiet fan with a good cooling system
The hard disk stays cool
Cons
The power supply is excessively heavy for a lightweight notebook
The touchpad could be bigger
The standard 6 cell battery running time is little over 3 hours at light load
The supplied memory is DDR2-533
The fan runs continuously
I would like an option for the WXGA+ (1440 x 900) resolution display

Just make sure that you don’t need PC Card or Bluetooth support. At last, the Sony VAIO X505 has finally got some seriously stylish competition. The rating for Samsung Q30 is 8 out of 10.
Samsung R55 First Hybrid HDD Laptop

Korea electronics giant, Samsung has announced its first laptops with new Hybrid HDD built in. The Samsung R55 is the Samsung’s first notebook that feature a 15.4 inch WXGA LCD display, 80GB Hybrid HDD and 5,400rpm drive alongside an additional 256MB flash drive. In addition, Samsung says notebook users will get extra long usage duration of battery life and be able to boot up their computers faster by using its hybrid hard drive.
A hybrid hard disk drive is a hard drive that contains a flash memory chip that stores data and applications. This way most frequently used data can be stored and read from flash memory, reducing the usage (spin) of HDD itself.
The new Hybrid HDD Samsung R55 will selling for about US $1923. The notebook features a Intel Core2Duo T5600 (1.83GHz) CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 7400 Graphics card and super multi DL optical drive. Besides, the operating system of this Samsung’s machine is support by Window Vista Premium.
Samsung X60
Samsung X60 high performance notebook computer for professional laptop users and features Intel Core Duo processor, integrated Wireless networking, integrated Bluetooth connectivity, 2 DDR2 SoDIMM slots, ATI MobilityTM Radeon graphic chipset, PCI-Express Gigabit LAN and runs on Microsoft Windows XP. The laptop comes with a recovery CD or recovery partition.

TrustedReviews reviews Samsung X60 and concludes with overall rating of 8 out of 10 that “Samsung X60 is a very good notebook, that’s undeniable. Despite not being as fast as competing products, unless you’re in the habit of running seriously hardware intensive applications, the X60 will be more than a match for anything you’re likely to throw at it. However, the battery life does concern me and I would have expected better from this machine. Specification wise, you’re getting pretty much everything that you could want along with good design and a solid build quality. The screen is particularly good and at a push the X60 could even fulfill your gaming needs.
I don’t think that the price is unreasonable for what’s on offer, but then I’ve come to expect good value for money from Samsung. Ultimately though, the poor battery life and to a far lesser extent the disappointing performance figures, rob the X60 of a recommendation.”
